Afro Unidad is a Pan-African cultural kinship movement founded in 2020 by Afro organizations and artists. The movement includes over 50 Afro Ambassadors across 16 countries who host events and programs globally. Our actions are focused on Consciousness, Liberation, Healing, and Unity. We are a decolonization movement that hopes to assist in the liberation of Africans subjected to centuries of oppression in the Americas. We understand that culture is power, and that Black Atlantic culture is one of the most influential forces in the modern world.

Voices of the Diaspora: Black Women’s Stories from 14 Nations is a global anthology celebrating the strength, spirit, and creativity of Black women across the African diaspora. Featuring poetry, testimony, art, song, and prayers from contributors in Nigeria, Panama, Ecuador, Jamaica, Brazil, the United States, and beyond, this collection honors ancestral wisdom while amplifying contemporary voices. Born from the Afro Unidad movement, the book is both a love offering and a revolutionary archive. This multi-lingual publication is an expression of joy, resistance, and cultural memory. From Yoruba prayers to maroon songs, from spoken word to sacred healing, these pages uplift the lived experiences of Black women who are shaping the world. Edited by Iya Janina Walters (Panama). Text in both English and Spanish with some Portuguese.

FILM/ DOCUMENTARY

“Afro Unidad: Roots and Rebellions”

Afro-descendants from eight countries reflect on their roots and culture in a time of international uprising. Dissatisfied with the limited knowledge about their African heritage, some participate in DNA testing to discover ancient truths about their ancestors. Afro creatives share reflections from Panama, Jamaica, Peru, United States, Brazil, Nigeria, Argentina, South Africa in this documentary about unity. The music and dance of the Afro diaspora provide a rich flavor and soundscape to the film.
